I have just discovered the intricate artwork of LA based artist Melissa Manfull. Her art is inspired by rocks and crystals. For some reason I have always tried to stay away from Fornasetti and its strange almost novelty plates and accessories but recently i have been drawn to certain more whimsical designs out of the 350! .

Art making is a way for me to explore impermanence and the simultaneous desires to prevent and accept it. This is reflected in the work through allusions to natural processes, the use of translucency and fragile materials, and the making of temporary, site-specific works. The passing of time is evident in the repetition of simple activities, or the accretion of stitches, layers or marks.

I am pleased to teach another new drawing course at The Building Centre. This drawing course offers a thorough introduction to freehand spatial drawing developing confidence to communicate your ideas visually. The course is open to students of all ability levels. Randi Hokett is an artist and Southern California native. She received her BA in Art History from UCLA and her MA in Art History and Museum Studies from USC. Randi lives and works in Los Angeles.
